CHOICE AND SIZING

The maximum supported load depends on UPS power size. The sum of absorptions for each connected device, expressed in Watt, must not exceed the maximum value allowed by the UPS. For best working it’s suggested recommended not to apply more than 80% of the UPS maximum supported load.

Voltamps (VA) indicate the apparent power supplied by the UPS, while Watts (W) indicate the real power made available by the UPS. In order to correctly choose your UPS, it’s best to consider the real power output in Watts as a reference.

In order to support APFC equipped computers, such as Mac or new generation videogame consoles (PS5, PS4 Pro, Xbox Series X), you need to use our model NYTRO, that is a pure sinewave UPS.
Otherwise Epyc made the ION series that, although it’s not a pure sinewave UPS, it is perfectly compatible with APFC power supplies thanks to the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technology.
The other Epyc UPS models (NEON, TETRYS and QUANTUM series) are not recommended with this particular kind of load.

You can connect any kind of power strip to the UPS, provided that the wire is no more than 1.5 meters long.

INSTALLATION AND POSITIONING

Epyc UPSs are designed to be installed indoor only.
Air temperature must be between 0°C and 40°C (25°C is the ideal temperature), and ambient humidity must be less than 90%.

The UPS has to be placed on a horizontal plan. It is necessary to ensure that the UPS has an adequate ventilation and that it has at least 20 cm of empty space around it in each direction. Furthermore the air intakes for UPS cooling must be free.
The environment where the UPS is installed must not be too hot: the UPS must not be placed near heat sources nor exposed to direct sunlight. Avoid excessively dusty locations.

The UPS may be used immediately upon receipt. However, recharging batteries for at least 8 hours is recommended to ensure that the batteries maximum capacity is achieved. To recharge batteries, simply leave the unit plugged into an AC outlet.
If you are not using UPS for long time it’s necessary to charge batteries every three months, so to ensure their maximum life.

BASIC FUNCTIONALITIES

The acoustic signal that the UPS emits when it works in battery mode can be deactivated via the monitoring software. Alternatively, for the NEON, TETRYS, QUANTUM and NYTRO models, you can operate directly from the UPS by pressing the power button twice quickly (you will hear a “beep” confirming that the setup has been successful).
To reactivate the acoustic signal, just follow the same procedure.

For QUANTUM and NYTRO series the display is set to stay on for 1 minute, then it turns off automatically. Quickly press the button to turn the display on again.
If you want to set the display always on, you have to press the power button for 10 seconds until you hear 3 “beeps” that confirm the operation success (the procedure must be executed with display switched on).

All Epyc UPSs are equipped with the Auto Restart function that allows the unit to automatically restart when main power returns, even after a complete battery discharge.

It is possible to freely decide whether to leave the UPS on or to switch it off after turning off the connected devices, the performance of the unit is not affected. If the UPS is connected to the wall power outlet, the battery will be recharged whether the UPS is on or off.

Epyc UPSs are not equipped with any specific lightning protection filter. For this reason, in the event of a severe thunderstorm or in the presence of intense and/or prolonged atmospheric events, we recommend to switch off and unplug all the connected devices from the UPS, as well as to switch off and unplug the UPS itself from the wall socket, in order to avoid any possible damage to the connected devices.

Through the double RJ11/RJ45 port it is possible to filter the phone line, so to get a sharper signal, cleaned up by common network disturbances. These ports also provide surge protection for any standard modem, fax, or network cable. In order to filter the phone or internet line, you need to connect the network cable from the wall socket to the UPS IN socket and to connect an additional network cable from the UPS OUT socket to your phone or modem. Using these ports brings a 100 Mb/s speed limitation.

The USB socket allows you to connect the UPS to your PC via the supplied USB cable, so to use the dedicated monitoring software. Through the software it is then possible to monitor the UPS operation and to set auto shutdown options.

The input breaker is a thermal switch that protects the UPS and the connected devices from overvoltage. In the event of an overvoltage, the breaker triggers outward, interrupting the voltage pass.

MONITORING SOFTWARE

You can easily check the UPS status through the monitoring software, which can be downloaded free from your UPS web page.
The software also allows you to setup the auto-shutdown options.

Epyc provides a professional management software compatible with all main operating systems: Windows (Windows 7 and later), MacOS (MacOS 10.14 and later) and Linux.

MAINTENANCE

Batteries may only be replaced by experienced and well-trained personnel, using all necessary precautions. When replacing batteries, replace them with the same type and in the same number of the original equipment.

Before any cleaning operations, the UPS has to be switched off and unplugged from the power socket. Liquid cleaners or sprays can’t be used and any liquids or foreign objects must not be introduced into the UPS or into the air intakes. External case should be cleaned using a simple cloth slightly moistened with ethyl alcohol, removing any dust from the ventilation holes. Before restarting the UPS, make sure that the alcohol has completely evaporated. If any liquid or foreign objects accidentally enter into the UPS, do not switch on the system and contact technical support for assistance.

ENVIRONMENTAL STANDARDS AND DISPOSAL

All Epyc products meet the standards on quality and safety imposed by the European RoHS directive, as well as they comply with the REACH regulation on the quality and safety of the substances and molecules contained in the products’ materials.

Epyc complies with disposal rules about waste of electrical and electronic equipment (2012/19/EU Directive – WEEE) and with batteries recycling Directive (2006/66 EC), as well as it is registered to Cobat italian institute.
In this way any user can dispose of the UPS in its country recycling point, without any additional cost.
